WK Advisors and Accountants are proud sponsors of the Westpac & Bayleys Marlborough Sheep & Beef Farmer of the Year and on Friday 16th October, our senior WK advisors Craig Robinson and Derek West both attended the winners field day for 2019 at the Avery Family’s winning Bonavaree Farm, south of Blenheim.
Over 300 people travelled to Seddon for the competition field day showcasing Bonavaree Farm, many excited to see the dry-land lucerne system. Fraser and Shelley Avery, together with Doug and Wendy Avery, share the generous prize package. The competition is judged across 5-key aspects; financial, animal, and land management performance, governance and social responsibility.
Key messages both Derek and Craig took home from the field day was an important focus on communication at all levels from governance to staff on a farm. The Avery’s also suggested making decisions early through measuring and monitoring, and placed large importance on the use of technology. The Bonavaree Farm is a great example of developing a system to suit the environment you are operating in, and implementing the mindset of continual learning and improvement.
