2016 07 26That’s exactly what one of our client managers Kim Marshall does.

The keen cyclist from Ashburton joined the WK team in 2013, after graduating from Otago University with a Bachelor of Commerce in 2011.

Kim joined Cuddon Cycle Marlborough where she took cycling from a recreational activity to representing the region in the Calder Stewart teams elite series, and achieving 12th place at the elite road nationals this year.

“I love cycling it’s a fantastic sport that anyone of any age and fitness level can enjoy,” she says.
“For me it’s all about the people; getting out there on my bike with a bunch of good people, having a laugh and challenging each other.”

As a pretty handy accountant, the task of managing and preparing the club’s annual accounts and paying the bills has naturally fallen to the 28-year-old.

At WK, all senior staff volunteer at a non-profit organisation at least 20 hours each year. This policy is an important part of our approach to business, and is spelled out in our mission: Business advisors dedicated to the success of our business, clients and community.

WK director Neil Sinclair says it’s WK’s way of giving back to Marlborough and helping out in a meaningful way.

“You might think you’re too busy – we’re all busy! But we believe lending our time and skills is one of the most valuable things we can do for our community, it makes Marlborough a better place to live,” Neil says.

“It is exciting to see the many different community organisations that directly benefit from our team’s expertise, from Marlborough Tennis and Cricket, to the Cancer Society and the Post Natal Depression Marlborough Trust, to Riverlands and Witherlea Schools. WK is a big part of Marlborough, and we love it that way!”

Kim says it’s quite difficult fitting in all the training, especially during the short days of winter, but the result is worth it.

“WK is great, they give us a bit of time to spend on our community service, and it’s just fantastic to help develop, promote and grow cycling in Marlborough.”
