With many volunteers expected to be going onto earthquake-affected farms in the coming days, weeks and months, health and safety regulatory requirements need to be met
The responsibilities of volunteers, organisers of volunteers and farm owners have been put together in a user-friendly pamphlet.
The pamphlet includes a checklist for organisers of volunteers, a registration form for volunteers, a checklist for farmers briefing volunteers and a volunteer register.
It also provides information about working in an earthquake zone and an emergency response card.
Under the Health and Safety at Work Act, all businesses have the primary duty of care, as far as is reasonably practicable, to ensure the health and safety of workers and others who are working for, or influenced by the business. This includes volunteers.
The pamphlet will help all parties understand their responsibilities while working on farm and allow everyone to get on with the recovery effort.
